A bold, modern approach to School Portraits
We let kids be kids in front of the camera…
We take portraits of kids just as they are, working quickly to help them relax and interact with us without the pressure of delivering a smile.
We capture authentic smiles and personality
We create an experience that brings out the child’s personality, particular expressions and features.
We keep it simple, and easy —for everyone
One simple black backdrop and one light... your kiddo is the focus!

What to Wear on Portrait Day
School pictures are forever pictures…
And that means Picture Day should be about making you AND your kiddos happy with the experience!
Below are my 5 simple “what to wear” tips for Preschool Picture Day - plus a bonus tip for siblings!

The Power of Choice
Give your child the feeling that they “chose” their outfit for Portrait Day!
Lay out 2,3 options you love and let them pick their favorite: win-win:)

Choose Color (thoughtfully)
Solid colors or subtle patterns (plaid, floral, stripes) photograph beautifully against a neutral black or grey backdrop.
Avoid: brand logos | Cartoon characters | Writing | Fluorescent colors | Black tops

Prioritize Comfort and Fit
Make sure your child’s clothes fit them well - not too baggy, scratchy or tight.
We only have a few minutes together, and comfort helps children relax quickly and show their natural expressions.

Add a Little Personality!
A simple accessory (or a favorite stuffed animal for children under 3) can make the portrait feel more personal.
Keep it to one or two items.

Keep Grooming Simple
For longer hair, pull it away from the face with barrettes or a scrunchie.
If you want your child's hair styled a certain way, a little gel or hair product will help keep it in place!

Siblings
Choose complementary rather than identical outfits.
Pull a color from one child’s patterned top into the other child’s outfit, or dress both in similar tones.

FAQ
FAQ: What to expect
CLASS PHOTOS
Class photos are meant to capture the children as they are together, not absolute perfection from every child at the same second ;)
Expect personality! Someone may be serious, laughing, or looking at a friend. That’s part of what makes it feel like their class.
INDIVIDUAL PORTRAITS
No advance sign-up is required. Every child participating in Picture Day will receive an individual portrait album.
Most galleries include 3–5 images in color and black & white.
PRINTS & DIGITALS
There is no minimum purchase.
Once galleries are ready, you can choose only what you love.
Prints start at $16
One digital image : $45
Full Digital Album: $105
Class photos are offered as prints only.
INFANTS
Infants (especially around 18 months and younger) often observe before they engage, so don’t be surprised by a soulful stare instead of a huge smile!
I may use a toy, plushy, or familiar adult nearby to help them feel comfortable.
SIBLINGS
Sibling portraits are available with advance sign-up only.
Please use the sibling sign-up link at the top of this page!
Sibling galleries typically include 2–3 finished images in color and black & white, in addition to each child’s individual portraits.
Personality & Moods
Your child does not need to smile for me to create a beautiful portrait.
You may see a huge grin, a quiet gaze, a mischievous expression, or something wonderfully serious.
FAQ: more!
Should I tell my kid to "behave", and say cheeeeese to the "nice" photographer?
NO! Please, NO!
They will hate me, even before setting eyes on me! I AM nice, and they WILL have loads of fun. I won't ask them to smile, I will make them laugh. Instead, say "Nicole is a photographer who will be taking pictures today! She is super fun, I'm so excited for you!"
How about Siblings? Will you take pictures of my kids together?
Yes! Sibling portraits are available with advance sign-up. Please use the sign-up link provided by your school. You can also contact Nicole at nicole@nicoleseguinphotography.com directly if you are having trouble finding the sign up link.
What if my child doesn't attend school on Portrait day?
You may come in exceptionally to have their photo taken at the beginning of Portrait Day.
If you can't make it on Portrait Day for any reason (your child is sick, or you are on vacation), or you would like pictures of other siblings: I offer 2 Pop-up Portrait Sessions a year. Send me an email for details!
Can parents jump in for a quick photo?
On School Portrait day, I cannot accommodate parents, I'm sorry! That being said... I am a family photographer, and I would LOVE to photograph your family during a private session!
Why aren't there the same number of images and variety of poses in each school portrait gallery?
Depending on the time of day, personality and mood of the moment, some kids will offer a variety of expressions where others will be more reserved.
I strive to capture the personality of your unique child... which also means that I steer clear from cheesy smiles.
What should my children wear, any tips?
More details above: WHAT TO WEAR. In a nutshell: anything your child feels comfortable in, and that you love too. These are forever pictures, so you'll want to be happy with your choice! For timeless pictures, please avoid logos.
What if my child had a runny nose? A scrape, a bruise or a rash?
I keep a bag of unscented wipes near me during the portrait session. If there are any scrapes or cuts on their face, you may choose to have one or several images retouched for an additional fee.
I don't want you to use my child's portrait on social media
Without your consent, your child will not be featured on any social media. I take this very seriously.
What if my child doesn't want to be photographed?
If your child is shy or needs time to warm up to the camera, I will do everything to make your child feel comfortable. This happens a lot with kiddos under 4!
On the VERY rare occasion that a child is visibly distressed, and/or crying, I apply my "No Camera Trauma" policy : we give your child time to observe me photographing the other children, but we don't force them to come back if they are too upset.
I have more questions, how can I contact you?
By email at nicole@nicoleseguinphotography.com - I am quick to reply!

Hi! I'm Nicole!
I absolutely love capturing authentic portraits of preschool children. Here's why:
The connection is real.
Children and I just naturally get along. Simple as that!
The mission is personal.
When I saw my son's school portraits come in the first time - those stiff poses and forced smiles - I thought, "This isn't my child. This isn't the memory I want to preserve."
That's when I decided to create a different kind of School Portrait experience. I capture portraits that truly live and breathe—images that showcase your child's unique personality and tell their story.
As a small business owner, I deliver quality products with exceptional service. Clear, direct communication is my priority.
